Noon Sunday

1970       Linda Avery

Teaser Storyline for Noon Sunday

Two mercenaries, Jason Cootes (Mark Lenard) and the older~Darmody (John Russell), are put ashore on the island of Kapalu to assassinate two guerrilla leaders, General Twan (Tony Lee) and Colonel Gong (Keye Luke).

The guerrillas are establishing ultra-security on Kapalu, in preparation for the setting up of a rocket site. Their deaths would cripple security on the island.

The two mercenaries operate from separate ends of the island-Cootes is to kill Gong, and Darmody to kill Twan. The assassinations are set for noon on Sunday. Cootes is no stranger to Kapalu, having been an undercover agent there eight years before, so he enlists the aid of a young villager, Kon (Bobby Canavarro) and his sister Kahn (Linda Avery).

Darmody stages a suicidal attack on the island power station and is lucky to escape. For the time being the guerrillas, aware of the mercenaries' presence, believe the power station is the target on their mission. Cootes' work is hampered by the knowledge that there

is a traitor within Kon's group, and through Kahn's work he finds out who the traitor is . . . the traitor dies, throttled by Cootes.

Aware that Gong visits the village church at noon each Sunday, Cootes and his village helpers wire the church under the cover of darkness, planning to detonate massive charges while Gong is in the church. Heavy rains sweep across the island during Saturday night, washing out a planned parade at which Darmody was to shoot Twan with his sniper's rifle. With the guerrillas stepping-up their search for the mercenaries, Darmody is forced to change his plans and hurry to Twan's house, set in a well-guarded valley.

By now, Gong and The Aide (Jon Fong) from Twan's headquarters realize the traitor is missing, and they begin taking special precautions. A worried village chief Malik (Gigo Tevzdaze) is beginning to sense Kon's involvement in the mercenaries' mission, and his presence adds further worries to Darmody's last minute change of plans.

Gong uses a choir of children to safeguard his visit to the church, so Cootes is powerless for the time being.. Darmody ambushes a guerrilla jeep and manages to get into the compound beside Twan's house and hide in a garage. Gong leaves the church, and Cootes is forced to shoot it out with him and his soldiers, It takes a grenade to kill Oong, and when Cootes detonates the church charges, only Kon's ~timely arrival saves the dazed mercenary.

Inside Twan's house, Darmody is confronted by Twan and his two young children . . .
