Escape to Passion

1972       Kathie Hilton

This is a story of an ordinary country boy named Leo. Leo was a small time hood who came to California with dreams of making it big in the world of crime. Back in Oklahoma, Leo had known how to get what he wanted but Los Angeles only teased him with its bright lights and flashes of what other "folks" had.

Try as he might he couldn't get a break either as a petty thief or as an ambitious stock boy with J. J. Billingsley's carnival and novelty supply company. His wife Judy never let him forget how close to a miserable failure he was and her constant bitter nagging pushed Leo into a desperate attempt to prove his manhood.

After deciding to pursue a full time career of crime, Leo quit his job and got together a gang, of sorts, with Nads and Jason.

Nads, who had worked with Leo at the plant, was an unpredictable half wit and Jason was the "big city pro" who hung out with Leo

and Nads at the bar selling hot merchandise when he wasn't supplying call girls to advertising agencies.

What had seemed a simple enough first job almost turned out to be a fatal mistake for Leo and his gang. But despite their clumsiness they pulled it off; and were just as proud as if it had been a Brink's Armored Truck robbery.

Over confident and impatient Leo hurriedly laid out a big time scheme for his gang. The moment Jason heard this ambitious plan for a bank "caper" he quickly backed out. Undaunted Leo got Cherry, the dancer from the bar, to take Jason's place.

That sunny afternoon at the bank no one expected a nude hold up. Then neither did Leo expect a little white haired lady with a blazing revolver; or a berserk Nads with a jammed machine-gun; nor hippies at his secret hide out. Least of all Jason never expected to see three desperate fugitives in their Escape to Passion come bursting into the middle of his crisco party. It's there at the party that the cops finally track down Leo and his gang engaging them in a blazing gun battle that ultimately leaves all our characters dead - and brings the story to its end.
