The People That Time Forgot

1977       Sarah Douglas

When Bowen Tyler was marooned on the Lost Island of Caprona in the year 1916, he hurled a cannister into the ocean hoping some one would find it and come to his rescue.

Three years later the cannister, containing Tyler's information about the island and prehistoric botanical specimens, is discovered off the coast of Scotland. Tyler's long time friend, Ben McBride convinces a London newspaper that Tyler's strange claims could be true and that an expedition to rescue his friend on Caprona could result in the story of the century.

The members of the strange expeditionary force, which includes McBride, as the leader; Sarah Douglas, an attractive and very strong-willed newspaper photographer; Thorley Walters, an eminent English biologist and Shane Rimmer, a tough American World War I airplane mechanic, fly into the island in an amphibian which just manages to lift its four passengers above the towering ice-cliffs.

When their plane is damaged by a pterodactyl the party takes. off through the savage country on foot, leaving the mechanic to

make whatever repairs are possible. Luck is with them when they meet Ajor, a beautiful native girl who has learned to speak English from the very person they're looking for, Tyler.

McBride and the others learn their mission is not so easily completed, however, since Tyler has been taken prisoner by a savage tribe called Na-gas, who sacrifice prisoners to appease their volcano god.

Through the fertile imagination of Edgar Rice Burroughs, the travelers battle with an 80-ton Seratasaurus, escape the clutches of a pack of monstrous snakes only to be taken prisoners by the dreaded Na-gas. As prisoners they are held captive in the incredible City of Skulls which is built entirely of human skulls and is perched along the rim of a fiery volcano.

The travelers escape from the diabolical City of Skulls and the island of Caprona soon becomes an adventure in terror no one will ever forget.
